Shannon Malecki of Farmingdale will be on The WOR Morning Show with Joe Bartlett and Donna Hanover on Friday, May 2, at 7:20 AM.  Shannon has entered the fourth annual WOR Shining Star Talent Search singing LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live.”  The interview does not imply that Shannon is a winner or finalist, but she will be interviewed and a part of her song will be played on the air.

WOR Radio 710 HD is holding its fourth annual “Shining Star Talent Search,” which benefits tri-state area schools and students by supporting arts curriculums and providing cash prizes to winning students. $10,000 goes to the school attended by the Shining Star winner!  Students in grades 7-12 across the area have been invited to sing a song of their choice and to submit their recording to WOR Radio. The deadline for entries is May 14, 2008. Finalists will be notified on May 22, 2008.

WOR Radio has a long tradition of supporting education and giving back to communities. Pop icon and Broadway performer Deborah Gibson credits WOR with helping to get her career started when she won a WOR song writing competition. Last year’s winner of WOR’s Shining Star Talent Search was Blair Goldberg from the Long Island High School for the Arts. Previous winners have been from New Jersey, including Alexandra Hausner from Fair Lawn High School and Jonathan Schwartz from Cranford High School.

TNR Program
(For Stray & Feral Cats)

A Huge Success In Farmingdale

Joseph F. Rachiele, former Deputy Mayor of The Incorporated Village of Farmingdale is pleased to announce The Long Island Cat Project, Trap, Neuter, Return Program (TNR) for cats, a huge success.  In the last three months, 54 adult cats have been neutered or spayed.

The objective of this program is to reduce the number of feral and stray cats through trapping, neutering/spaying and returning the cats where captured.   In addition to the neutering and spaying, cats are de-wormed, receive vaccinations for Rabies and Distemper and ear tipped, the universal symbol identifying the cats as having been neutered.  Cats that are candidates for adoption will be entrusted to adoption organizations.  Over 50 kittens have already been rescued and put up for adoption.  This program is available throughout the entire Farmingdale area.

The Suffolk SPCA Mobile Spay/Neuter van, and the Nassau SPCA van will be offering low cost and/or free TNR services.

The Farmingdale TNR Program is entirely funded by donations, which purchase the needed supplies and veterinary services.   Please make your tax deductible donation to People and Animals Team up Successfully 'PATS', who has agreed to offer low cost veterinary care for the feral cats in Farmingdale, so that we are able to spay and neuter as many cats as possible in an effort to resolve this widespread problem.

Mail checks to:  Village of Farmingdale - TNR Program
361 Main Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735
Attn: Joseph F. Rachiele

Please, do not call Village Hall regarding this program.  To report locations of stray/feral cats or to inquire about volunteering, please contact; 'PATS' at (516)223-6673 or email: FeralPats@yahoo.com .

Low cost cat spay/neutering is always available for $50 at: Island Rescue, 1500 N. Clinton Ave, Bay Shore, NY 11706 - (631)968-8700.  Includes Rabies and FVRCP vaccination, no appointment necessary.
Spay/Neuter drop off times; Saturday and Monday 8 to 9AM, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 9 to 10AM.  All cats must be secure in carrier, no food after 10 PM the night before surgery.
