Who is the South Farmingdale Fire Department?
The South Farmingdale Fire Department has 109 members, both male and female. Of the 109 members, 87 are active and serve on a daily basis. The South Farmingdale Fire Department operates out of two stations:
The first is located at 819 South Main Street at the corner of Crestwood Blvd.
The second station (Station #2) is located on Merritts Road at the corner of Beverly Road, near the Farmingdale Library.
We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We work on a pager system which means if the pager alerts and you are available, report to the firehouse for emergency assignment. Time is of the essence. One of your neighbors needs your help.

What you can expect:
Upon acceptance into the Department you will be required to take a physical examination by the Fire Department's Doctors. This is a mandatory requirement from OSHA. After you receive and pass the physical you are sworn into the department and officially become a member.
What about training and schooling?
If you joined as a firefighter, you will attend fire training school which is located in Bethpage. Fire School for "probies" is usually 1 night a week (Fridays) for 16 weeks. Day sessions are also available. If you joined as an EMS Member you will be sent to school to become an Emergency Medical Technician. EMT school is usually two nights a week for 24 weeks and could be days or evenings depending on your schedule. In either case here is no cost to you for either training.
What if I'm injured?
As a member of the Fire Department you are automatically covered by Workman's Compensation from the very first minute something happens. You also have supplemental disability insurance to make up where Workman's Compensation leaves off. There are also Life Insurance Benefits for Line of Duty and Non-Line of Duty Death.
What benefits are there?
You are entitled to the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP). This is an insurance annuity set up similar to a pension plan. After five years you are vested in the program and start to accumulate retirement benefits. At this moment you can achieve up to $400 per month if you stay in the program for twenty years. And there's much more!
