Who are the Friends of Massapequa Preserve?
We are a group of dedicated citizens, who live in the greater Massapequa area, or use the preserve, who united to form a not-for-profit organization to enhance the protection, restoration, uses and appreciation of this precious community resource. We work in cooperation with the Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Nassau County Police Department.
What are our Goals?
The Friends of Massapequa Preserve will work with the community to increase public awareness, promote educational activities, and encourage proper stewardship of the valuable natural resources in the Preserve.
Through outreach and coordination with local schools, homeowners, civic and business groups, public officials, and volunteer organizations, we will create a coalition of preserve stewards.
Friends of Massapequa Preserve is also organizing a civilian "park watch," to be the "eyes and ears" for identifying and reporting misuse and vandalism in the preserve. Anyone can call a 24 hour hotline to report abuses or problems in the preserve, by calling the Nassau County Park Rangers at: (516) 572-0300
