Laurie Novarro and her daughter tragically lost their home on Sunday afternoon. The house, located on Lyons Avenue in South Farmingdale, became fully engulfed in flames and was completely destroyed. Fortunately Laurie and her daughter were able to get out safely, but with only the clothes on their backs. Their car keys and everything else was lost, including some of their beloved pets. Laurie's daughter could hardly be consoled. The house is being leveled today (April 28).
Joseph F. Rachiele, former Deputy Mayor of The Incorporated Village of Farmingdale, spoke with Laurie this morning to let her know people on the Farmingdale Forum were asking where they could send donations. Joe stated that she seemed more concerned about the animals than herself.
Laurie Novarro is a cat lover who helped the TNR Program for cats around her home and job. In an effort to save her cats, Laurie broke as many windows as she could so they could escape. Two cats were caught outside and saved. Her dog got away from her and disappeared into the house. Joe Rachiele, who is affiliated with the TNR Program in Farmingdale, set traps on the surrounding properties – hope is grim since the main floor collapsed into the basement and everything is charred. Afterwards, the firemen found the remains of two cats in the home, still missing are their other cats and their dog. Joe Rachiele is caring for her 2 surviving cats in his home.
Anyone who can help this mother and her daughter, please send donations to one of the addresses listed above, or email
Many thanks to the Fire Department and Red Cross for all their efforts.
